Global Education is …..




Junko Ono
has worked for organisations supporting human rights in Japan. She is currently studying for an MA in Educational Studies at York University, and also volunteers at Leeds Development Education Centre.

What is global education?
Global education is about teaching global issues and development issues. It is also about encouraging concern and action for global issues. It is especially important for young people, because they will be shaping future society.


Yvonne Hampton is a special needs teacher. As a supply teacher she has worked in both mainstream and special schools with PLMD (Profound Learning and Multiple Disabled Person) pupils.

What is global education?
Wherever possible the teacher is relating the curriculum to other countries, peoples, backgrounds and cultures. This means pupils are learning about the diversity of life and cultures. At some level pupils can learn about development issues which affect people's lives directly or indirectly.


Peter D'Sena is lecturer in History and Education at Leeds Metropolitan University.

What is global education?
It is primarily an opportunity to enrich people's minds, by allowing them to give critical consideration to the issues, problems and ideas of others; and that can be of 'others' from the other side of the globe or the other side of the street.
